Frequently Asked Questions
Spirituality is a vast subject that is broached by people in varied ways. I like to keep an open mind and use something that is as close as a scientific approach to it. Here are some of the answers I have found about the most common spiritual topics. Me and the Universe
Did I choose my parents?
This question is particularly hard for people who have had abusive childhood but the answer is that we all choose our parents. If we are given up for adoption, we also choose that particular circumstance. There is no punishment involved. But what happens is that it is your soul has chosen these circumstances for your own growth. Your soul has a completely different perspective and goal than your personality (who you are in this lifetime). So your soul can seem to make choices for you that seem unfair.
Am I being punished for something I did in a past life?
No one is punished for something they have done in a past life, or in this life. If difficult things are happening to you, it is not because you have been a bad person in a past life. If your soul has chosen particular harships for you in this lifetime, it could be because of a specific goal that it set for itself that can be achieved through that specific experience. It is, however, always a choice that your soul makes before you incarnate.
Often, things happen to you because of systems. There are many minorities who suffer at the hands of oppressive systems. This is the result of thousands of years of the power being held at the hands of a few. You and I don’t have to accept this.
Sometimes things happen to you because of the way you think. Learning how the mind works and taking responsibility for our thoughts and emotions are a big part of spiritual maturity.
Why do children suffer?
This is a very hard question to answer. The question “why” rarely brings peace, when asked, so I am not keen to answer that question. A more helpful question is how can you or their carer supported that child in that suffering. Sometimes the answer lies in changing the environment and often this means changing society. How do we change society? Sometimes we feel helpless to do that. But young people like Greta Thunberg have shown us that age and numbers don’t matter. We can all make a difference.
Does God exist?
First of all, God is a concept that has many different aspects. Who is God? Is God created in our image or are we created in the image of God? And can we interact with a being we call God outside of religion? To me, God is a being that transcends all of us and is at the origin of all of us. It’s the purest form of energy you can come across.
Do we have to believe in God for them (note the pronoun) to exist? I don’t think so.
I like to think of God as universal intelligence. I have discussed the concept of a single God v. different Gods in one of my podcast episodes. Feel free to head over to this podcast episode to hear what I said. I also dont believe that God only lives in Churches, Temples or Mosques. Check my episode about God is everywhere.
Why are there so many religions?
If there is only one God, why are there so many religions and not just the one? I think the answer lies in the concept of diversity. Each culture has created a different religion to cater to the beliefs and preferences of that specific culture. Without wanting to offend anyone, I often compare that to different ice cream flavours. If the only icecream flavour available in the world was vanilla, the world would be boring.
I have taken this idea further by promoting an individual spiritual blue print. In episode 44 of my podcast, True Spirituality with Ange, I encourage you to create your own blueprint for all things spiritual. To listen to the episode, click here.
The bigger picture
Is there a hell?
If we define hell by a place of evil and suffering, then it is easy to see that hell is not a place we go to if we have behaved badly, but already present on Earth this very moment. Hell can be our minds. A lot of suffering can happen in the world of our own thoughts. Mental illness can be experienced as a form of hell.
Sartre said famously that hell is other people. Other people can make our lives miserable. It starts with domestic abuse, which is sadly much more common than we think and it affects both men and women. One in four women experience it (officially) in the UK. That is only the ones that have been recognised by the legal system. The threshold is incredibly high. Most cases never make it to court.
Does evil exist? Is it a person or an act? That’s a topic for another question. What I do know is that when I asked that question out loud one day on the motorway, a car with BAD 666 on its a plate zipped by. Was that a sign? Most certainly. Did it give me all the answers with regards to evil? Of course not.
Do angels exist?
I didn’t really believe in angels until 2005 when I was told by a psychic that I had angel dust coming out of my hands. Even then, I remained sceptical. However, working with angels has become my normal over the past twenty years so the answer to that question is now a resounding yes.
If you would like to find out if angels exist, ask to be shown an angel feather. That’s a single white feather that seems to appear out of nowhere. If you see one after asking, there is your answer. But it could be that you will be shown in other ways.
There are, however, five ways that we create obstacles between us and our angels. If you would like to learn more about these obstacles, head over to episode 78 of my podcast with this link.
If angels exist why are we still getting hurt?
The main reason is that angels cannot override free will. In order for them to protect us, we need to ask for their help. In order to ask for their help, we don’t need to be religious, pious or good people. We don’t even need to believe in angels. What we do need, though, is an open mind.
Angels have signed up to help all humans. No discrimination.
Sometimes, if a particular unpleasant event happens to you despite you asking to be shielded from it, it can be for several different reasons. The best way to find out is to open your akashic records. I have recorded an episode about akashic records that you can listen to here.
How do I become more spiritual?
Becoming more spiritual does not mean praying or meditating more often, despite what some spiritual teachers might tell you.
Becoming more spiritual is committting to looking at yourself honestly and taking responsibility for everything you think, feel, say and do. It starts with stopping with the bullshit excuses. We all justify what we do and play blame games. I do too. To become spiritual is embracing a path where we commit to exposing our ego and the games it plays. This is best done through therapy and reflective practice. Not meditating. I know a man who meditates every day and who is as far from being spiritual. And if we judge by how many cult leaders are both charimsatic and spiritually gifted, meditation does not necessarily bring wisdom.
Spirituality can be seductive and lead us to bypass the work that is needed. The spiritual world is a jungle full of people who will indulge your ego. Be discerning. If someone tells you that you are more evolved than others and special, beware. I have recorded a podcast episode with the top six essentials you need on your spiritual journey.
